Appellations
Two appellations, based on precise specifications, as well as the IG Marc and IG Fine du Bugey, lend its singularity to the Bugey vineyard. Discover the specific features of the Bugey AOC and Roussette du Bugey AOC.
Bugey AOC
Bugey AOC is reserved for still white, red, rosé wines and fully sparkling or semi-sparkling white and rosé wines:
- Bugey White PDO
- Bugey Gamay PDO
- Bugey Pinot Noir PDO
- Bugey Mondeuse PDO
- Bugey Rosé PDO
- Bugey Cerdon PDO
- Traditional Method Bugey PDO
Some Bugey AOC wines come with an additional geographical denomination:
- Bugey Manicle AOC (white and red)
- Bugey Montagnieu AOC (red)
- Fully sparling Bugey or semi-sparkling Cerdon AOC
- Fully sparkling Bugey or semi-sparkling Montagnieu AOC
Roussette du Bugey AOC
Roussette du Bugey AOC is intended for still white wines made with Altesse grapes. It may be supplemented by an additional geographical denomination. There are two of them:
- Roussette du Bugey Montagnieu AOC
- Roussette du Bugey Virieu-le-Grand AOC
IG Marc and IG Fine du Bugey
The Bugey vineyard is also renowned for its brandies:
- IG Marc du Bugey is obtained from the distillation of grape marc. The Marc de Bugey is known for its rich aromas on the nose, and its prune, dried fruit and toasted flavours on the palate.
- IG Fine du Bugey is obtained from distilled wines. Fine du Bugey ages patiently in oak casks. The alcohol’s potency is skilfully tempered over time. On the palate, it is well rounded and rich with notes of vanilla, candied citrus fruit and mocha with great length.
These two productions are distilled in an antique mobile still.
Marketing of Bugey AOC
An attractive vineyard thanks to the diversity of its wines, Bugey AOC appeals to many palates. Various distribution channels combine for effective marketing.
- 47% of wines are sold directly from the estate by the winegrower, offering the customer an authentic experience of interaction and tasting in the wineries and production sites of Bugey AOC.
- 24% of wines are sold to restaurants and wine sellers.
- 10% of wines are sold at farmers’ shops, small stores or large and medium-sized commercial outlets.
- 10% of wines are exported.
- 9% of wines are sold at fairs & shows for professionals or the general public.
- 23% of winegrowers organise open-days at their wineries.
